The UnReel Take:
Bottom Line: Be wary as you proceed into the night. For there are many dangers yet to come to light. Alas, the path ahead will be revealed if you are smart. Else you may find the destination not for the weak of heart.
I had to try, considering this is a movie wherein one of the characters is renowned writer/poet Edgar Allan Poe. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m always a sucker for 1800’s detective stories. Great performances from Bale (the detective) and Melling (Poe) make it worth your time for this macabre movie experience. You may be able to guess one outcome to this movie, but there is a twist you may not see coming.
UnReel AR: 7.1
UnReel Category: Murder Mystery - While it is a slow burn, there is also plenty of suspense to hold your attention.
Food Pairing: If you want to enhance your movie watching experience, you are going to want to bake a savory chicken pot pie. It matches the atmosphere perfectly.
Drink Pairing: Characters are drinking whiskey throughout the movie, as was I. It worked well for me, but if you aren’t looking to imbibe in straight liquor for the night, a hearty mug of ale will do as well.
