Bottom Line: You’ve likely read the book or watched one of the previous adaptations, or at least know of the story. WWI is one of those wars you read and hear more often than see, so any film covering the harrowing experiences of the soldiers who fought in that war, regardless of the side, inevitably results in shock, sorrow, and outrage. On the one hand, it is a surreal but necessary experience to have as it serves as a reminder to us all, the sacrifices soldiers have made and will continue to make on our behalf. On the other, it is simply and tragically sad. Outstanding cinematography and sound make it easy to feel just a fraction of the fear and uncertainty the soldiers in the trenches and charging the line must’ve felt.

Food Pairing: Seeing as soldiers had to steal fowl from farmers during their stay at the front, something like rotisserie chicken or turkey legs should pair well with the atmosphere and feel of the movie.

Drink Pairing: If you were on the front line, you likely drank anything you could get your hands on. But, given the location of the majority of the movie, any type of wine or sherry should match the movie well.
