The UnReel Take:
Bottom Line: It’s an interesting premise, albeit a slow burn; the majority of the movie jumps back and forth from courtroom to flashback. You have to admit though, a movie taking place in the bayous/marshes always provides a unique and interesting atmosphere. Taking a peak into a differing way of life from your own is always appealing. And in this case, that life, while frightening to some, is beautiful to others. Most should be able to enjoy this movie, it is well acted with an interesting murder case that, at it’s core, is actually a tale of romance.
UnReel AR: 7.3
UnReel Category: Dromance - We thought this movie was primarily a drama/romance. Yes there is mystery and suspense elements surrounding a murder case, but the overall story is one of tragedy, perseverance, and love.
Food Pairing: I mean, it has to be crawfish (crawdads), right? But, these could be hard to find depending on your location, and sucking the brains out of their heads doesn’t appeal to everyone. So, any type of Cajun blackened fish, complete with cheesy grits should elevate your movie watching experience.
Drink Pairing: Ever hear of a Cherry Bounce? It is uniquely North Carolina, and would fit the atmosphere of the movie pretty well (especially if you make it moonshine based as opposed to brandy). That said, a Vieux Carré, while not distinctly North Carolinian, also fits the theme of bayous, marshes, swamps, etc…
